Welcome to the UTKM Assistant Instructor Theory Certification Course. Do you want to help with teaching and supporting belt testing at your local UTKM school? This is the first step. This course is designed for students pursuing Assistant Instructor Certification. It is moderately demanding and requires consistent study and writing. You will complete three modules, each with a unit test. This is a partially self-guided program completed at your own pace, with support and oversight from your assigned UTKM Lead Instructor. What to Expect An academic workload, including: Written essays and assignments Written and video submissions Unit tests A final exam Instructor discussions and feedback Time Commitment: Most candidates complete the theory phase in 1–6 months with 4–6 hours per week of focused study and writing (more time may be required if your schedule is limited). Certification Requirements Important: To be certified, you must also complete the in-person instructor pathway (including a teaching practicum), achieve UTKM Orange Belt, and demonstrate you can independently run tests to UTKM standards. Requirements & Key Info Minimum rank: Candidates should have, or be close to, UTKM Orange Belt. A practicum cannot begin until Orange Belt is achieved. Fees & What’s Included Your course fee includes the in-person teaching practicum and other required instructor training. It does not include regular student membership fees, or any fees associated with belt testing (including belt test fees and related requirements). Additional Notes No refunds: Once you begin Unit 1 Updates: Course content is updated periodically. Even certified instructors are expected to revisit materials to stay current. To become a Full Instructor, you must complete an upgrade course after certification and meet additional requirements.
